Clean Rooms

Between a Class 10, 100, and 1,000 cleanroom, which one has the strictest standards? What are some common contamination control measures?

Expand Hint
A cleanroom is an engineered space designed to maintain low concentrations of airborne and aerosol contaminants. To maintain its integrity of a controlled environment, cleanrooms are well isolated and actively cleansed.
Hint 2
Clean room ratings are based on how many particles that can measured in a cubic meter sample area.

Clean room ratings are based on how many particles that can measured in a cubic meter sample area. Per ISO 14644-1 Cleanroom Standards:
Class 10 (ISO 4) clean rooms have the strictest standards because that environment can only contain 10,000 particles/contaminants in a cubic meter sample area (compared to a typical urban area which contains 35,000,000 particles).

Some common control measures include: wiping/cleaning surfaces on a regular basis, having doorways maintain positive pressure, constant HEPA air filter recycling, covering personnel with masks, gowns, hair nets, gloves, boots etc, cleaning equipment or material before introducing it to the clean area, air-showers to enter, sticky mats at entrances and exits etc. There are many ways and practices for reducing contaminants into a clean room!
