Class Grade

A college course is graded based on two midterms worth 20% each, a final exam worth 30%, homework worth 15%, and five quizzes that are worth 15% in total. If a student scores a 80 and 87 respectively on the first two exams, a 95 on the final, and a zero on both the homework and quiz categories, what is their overall grade percentage for the class?

Expand Hint
Weighted arithmetic mean:
$$$\bar{X}_{w}=\frac{\Sigma w_iX_i}{\Sigma w_i }$$$
where $$X_i$$ is the value of the individual observation and $$w_i$$ is the weight applied to $$X_i$$ .
Hint 2
Multiple the weighted arithmetic mean by 100 to get the overall grade percentage.
Weighted arithmetic mean:
$$$\bar{X}_{w}=\frac{\Sigma w_iX_i}{\Sigma w_i }$$$
where $$X_i$$ is the value of the individual observation and $$w_i$$ is the weight applied to $$X_i$$ .
$$$\bar{X}_{w}=\frac{(0.2\times 80)+(0.2\times87)+(0.3\times95)+2(0\times15)}{20+20+30+15+15}$$$
$$$=\frac{16+17.4+28.5+0}{100}=\frac{61.9}{100}=0.619$$$
The student completed the course with a grade of 62%.
